SUSTAINABILITY at Marmion Primary School

A focus on sustainability has been well-established at Marmion Primary School for a number of years. A variety of initiatives have been implemented across the school involving all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Caring for the local environment, particularly our adjacent bushlands and coastal areas, is an important aspect of the community values within our school. Students, staff, parents and other local stakeholders are supportive of school initiatives that focus on awareness and education relating to current environmental issues.  A whole school approach to developing, implementing and maintaining sustainable and environmentally friendly practices that will benefit future generations is our key goal.

MARMION PRIMARY SCHOOL ECO COMMANDOS

Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of waste generated by Australians?

Australia is one of the most wasteful countries in the developed world.  Every year, the waste we generate is growing at twice the rate of our population. That is certainly not sustainable and we urgently need to do something about it.

Through assemblies, school newsletters, PA announcements, and a sustainability notice board, our Eco Commandos will be researching and raising awareness about waste and encouraging students, teachers, parents and members of our local community to make small changes to help minimise the amount of waste we create.

Our Purpose:

  • To promote the 4R’s – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
  • A whole school approach to minimising waste.
  • Raise Awareness of this global issue.
  • Affect change.

ECO COMMANDOS BEESWAX WRAPS
Each year our Eco Commandos create homemade beeswax wraps. To encourage our school community to generate less waste, one of these wraps is included in each Kindy orientation pack which is presented to families at the Kindy orientation night.
